Construction — Infrastructure

Light weight, ease of fabrication, and minimal maintenance make aluminum extrusion an excellent choice for infrastructure. Long used for road signs and light poles, extrusion is finding increased application for parking shelters, bridge decking, pedestrian bridges and similar applications.

Extrusion-based bridge solutions offer minimal out-of-service time for bridge replacement, as their light weight facilitates off-site assembly and allows "one-piece" installation. Inc. concluded that the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO, including maintenance and end-of-life disposition) for an aluminum bridge design was significantly less than that of steel-based alternatives.
